WHY INVEST IN OAXACA?

Oaxaca-Puerto Escondido Highway

New Oaxaca-Puerto Escondido Highway: Estimated Arrival of Over 85% of Vacationers

This place will be busier especially during long weekends and holidays.

The Mexican Association of Hotels and Motels of Puerto Escondido (AMHMO) estimated an increase of 30 percent or more in tourist traffic to this beach destination due to the new Oaxaca-Puerto Escondido highway, inaugurated on February 4.

Because travel time to this area has increased from seven to almost three hours in Oaxaca, this place will be busier, especially during long weekends and holidays, said Lizeth Rojas Ruíz, president of the organization.

Puerto Escondido registered some 800,000 tourists last year during peak season, or more according to estimates by the authorities themselves, numbers that are expected to skyrocket.

Rojas Ruíz explained that the destination offers nearly 5,010 hotel rooms, but that more infrastructure is needed to meet demand.

Interoceanic Corridor

For many years, 'El Chepe' was the only passenger train operating in Mexico, traveling through part of the impressive Tarahumara Mountains in the north of the country.

This changed in September, when Andrés Manuel López Obrador inaugurated half of the route (the rest is still under construction) of the Mexico-Toluca intercity train.

But the real giant leap for Mexico's rail infrastructure came on December 15, when the first stage of the famous and controversial Maya Train began operating in the southeast of the country.

However, another emblematic project of the Mexican president's six-year term that has gone much less unnoticed is the Isthmus of Tehuantepec Corridor, which will revive kilometers of old railway tracks between the states of Oaxaca and Veracruz, and which López Obrador inaugurated for passenger service this Friday.

But what is generating the greatest expectation about this project is probably its capacity to transport goods between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, given that the train line runs through the narrowest part of Mexico, connecting both coasts.
